Is This What It Means to be a Lawyer?

This week in ISM, I was making calls to professionals and asking them for interviews, which was an intimidating experience. When dismissed from class to make calls, I had to calm down and had to rehearse talking points so that I wouldn't stutter, knowing full well that lawyers would probably tear into me if I had made some mistake like that. There were numerous dead ends and promised calls which didn't happen, which I did expect. However, I had called this one individual and he had put me through another person, who had put me through another person who is yet to follow up with me. This whole experience should be demoralizing, yet it wasn't. I had emailed one professional and they had responded quite quickly, leaving me a small time to have a conversation, which was quite wonderful to hear. I haven't finished all the names and numbers, but I learned from the calls. I got more used to calling and speaking to the receptionist and creating a rapport with them, and it was a substantial confidence boost, especially considering the mistakes I had made in how I ended the calls. All in all, this week became less of a struggle and more time consuming in emailing and calling.
